Clary smiled as the gentle morning breeze lifted her long, loose black hair off her neck. She was wearing her classic tight black shirt and pants combo, her comfortable, tight black boots hugging her lower legs. In her hand she held a briefcase filled with documents; work stuff, and a few personal things. A picture of Lea, her the year old, and the ultrasound image of her second daughter. She touched her stomach lovingly. She couldn't wait for the child to be born!
But she was going to be late if she just kept standing her. She began walking leisurely along the path, her boots gently thumping the ground. The Machine Room wasn't far. She loved her job. It was she and her husband who had made the memory machine, and she had always loved working on it. It made her proud to know that she was helping her city this way. She didn't feel any guilt to be taking people's memories. It was for their own good, after all! They'd probably get themselves killed if they kept fighting. Really, she was doing them a favor.
When she reached the door to her workplace, she found a sign- CLOSED FOR SNOW- it said. Wait, what? There wasn't a flake of snow on the ground. But wait. The weather report had said they were expecting several feet of snow. That must be it. Grumbling, she turned away to try and find something else to do with her day. What could she do? She wasn't used to being free at this time. Even on weekends she usually went to work. She considered going to the Zero Cafe. But she wasn't hungry. She could wander into the town hall and see how long it took them to realize she didn't belong and kick her out. She usually liked this game but not she just want in the mood. Maybe she could swing by the court house and watch the law working. Normally a good case fascinated her but today she didn't feel like watching. She wanted to work. She tried to remember what she did with her free time. She didn't do much outside of work. Huh. When was the last time she did something fun? She couldn't remember.
Clary milled about the town square, hoping for entertainment. Even a fight would have been appreciated! She was bored but couldn't think of anything to do. She hoped someone would come and lift her out of her boredom, and soon.
